Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-56633: ELSA-2025-20095: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 02/13/2025 Added 02/11/2025 Modified 02/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tcp_bpf: Fix the sk_mem_uncharge logic in tcp_bpf_sendmsg The current sk memory accounting logic in __SK_REDIRECT is pre-uncharging tosend bytes, which is either msg->sg.size or a smaller value apply_bytes. Potential problems with this strategy are as follows: - If the actual sent bytes are smaller than tosend, we need to charge some bytes back, as in line 487, which is okay but seems not clean. - When tosend is set to apply_bytes, as in line 417, and (ret < 0), we may miss uncharging (msg->sg.size - apply_bytes) bytes. [...] 415 tosend = msg->sg.size; 416 if (psock->apply_bytes && psock->apply_bytes < tosend) 417 tosend = psock->apply_bytes; [...] 443 sk_msg_return(sk, msg, tosend); 444 release_sock(sk); 446 origsize = msg->sg.size; 447 ret = tcp_bpf_sendmsg_redir(sk_redir, redir_ingress, 448 msg, tosend, flags); 449 sent = origsize - msg->sg.size; [...] 454 lock_sock(sk); 455 if (unlikely(ret < 0)) { 456 int free = sk_msg_free_nocharge(sk, msg); 458 if (!cork) 459 *copied -= free; 460 } [...] 487 if (eval == __SK_REDIRECT) 488 sk_mem_charge(sk, tosend - sent); [...] When running the selftest test_txmsg_redir_wait_sndmem with txmsg_apply, the following warning will be reported: ------------[ cut here ]------------ WARNING: CPU: 6 PID: 57 at net/ipv4/af_inet.c:156 inet_sock_destruct+0x190/0x1a0 Modules linked in: CPU: 6 UID: 0 PID: 57 Comm: kworker/6:0 Not tainted 6.12.0-rc1.bm.1-amd64+ #43 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.12.0-1 04/01/2014 Workqueue: events sk_psock_destroy RIP: 0010:inet_sock_destruct+0x190/0x1a0 RSP: 0018:ffffad0a8021fe08 EFLAGS: 00010206 RAX: 0000000000000011 RBX: ffff9aab4475b900 RCX: ffff9aab481a0800 RDX: 0000000000000303 RSI: 0000000000000011 RDI: ffff9aab4475b900 RBP: ffff9aab4475b990 R08: 0000000000000000 R09: ffff9aab40050ec0 R10: 0000000000000000 R11: ffff9aae6fdb1d01 R12: ffff9aab49c60400 R13: ffff9aab49c60598 R14: ffff9aab49c60598 R15: dead000000000100 FS:0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff9aae6fd80000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 CS:0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 CR2: 00007ffec7e47bd8 CR3: 00000001a1a1c004 CR4: 0000000000770ef0 DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000fffe0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 PKRU: 55555554 Call Trace: <TASK> ? __warn+0x89/0x130 ? inet_sock_destruct+0x190/0x1a0 ? report_bug+0xfc/0x1e0 ? handle_bug+0x5c/0xa0 ? exc_invalid_op+0x17/0x70 ? asm_exc_invalid_op+0x1a/0x20 ? inet_sock_destruct+0x190/0x1a0 __sk_destruct+0x25/0x220 sk_psock_destroy+0x2b2/0x310 process_scheduled_works+0xa3/0x3e0 worker_thread+0x117/0x240 ? __pfx_worker_thread+0x10/0x10 kthread+0xcf/0x100 ? __pfx_kthread+0x10/0x10 ret_from_fork+0x31/0x40 ? __pfx_kthread+0x10/0x10 ret_from_fork_asm+0x1a/0x30 </TASK> ---[ end trace 0000000000000000 ]--- In __SK_REDIRECT, a more concise way is delaying the uncharging after sent bytes are finalized, and uncharge this value. 6. Debian: CVE-2024-56614: linux -- security update Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 01/14/2025 Added 01/13/2025 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xsk: fix OOB map writes when deleting elements Jordy says: " In the xsk_map_delete_elem function an unsigned integer (map->max_entries) is compared with a user-controlled signed integer (k). Due to implicit type conversion, a large unsigned value for map->max_entries can bypass the intended bounds check: if (k >= map->max_entries) return -EINVAL; This allows k to hold a negative value (between -2147483648 and -2), which is then used as an array index in m->xsk_map[k], which results in an out-of-bounds access. spin_lock_bh(&m->lock); map_entry = &m->xsk_map[k]; // Out-of-bounds map_entry old_xs = unrcu_pointer(xchg(map_entry, NULL));// Oob write if (old_xs) xsk_map_sock_delete(old_xs, map_entry); spin_unlock_bh(&m->lock); The xchg operation can then be used to cause an out-of-bounds write. Moreover, the invalid map_entry passed to xsk_map_sock_delete can lead to further memory corruption. Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-53171: ELSA-2025-20095: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 6 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:M/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 02/13/2025 Added 02/11/2025 Modified 02/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ubifs: authentication: Fix use-after-free in ubifs_tnc_end_commit After an insertion in TNC, the tree might split and cause a node to change its `znode->parent`. A further deletion of other nodes in the tree (which also could free the nodes), the aforementioned node's `znode->cparent` could still point to a freed node. This `znode->cparent` may not be updated when getting nodes to commit in `ubifs_tnc_start_commit()`. This could then trigger a use-after-free when accessing the `znode->cparent` in `write_index()` in `ubifs_tnc_end_commit()`. This can be triggered by running rm -f /etc/test-file.bin dd if=/dev/urandom of=/etc/test-file.bin bs=1M count=60 conv=fsync in a loop, and with `CONFIG_UBIFS_FS_AUTHENTICATION`. More specifically, consider the following TNC: zroot / / zp1 / / zn Inserting a new node `zn_new` with a key smaller then `zn` will trigger a split in `tnc_insert()` if `zp1` is full: zroot / \ / \ zp1 zp2 / \ / \ zn_newzn `zn->parent` has now been moved to `zp2`, *but* `zn->cparent` still points to `zp1`. Now, consider a removal of all the nodes _except_ `zn`. Just when `tnc_delete()` is about to delete `zroot` and `zp2`: zroot \ \ zp2 \ \ zn `zroot` and `zp2` get freed and the tree collapses: zn `zn` now becomes the new `zroot`. `get_znodes_to_commit()` will now only find `zn`, the new `zroot`, and `write_index()` will check its `znode->cparent` that wrongly points to the already freed `zp1`. `ubifs_copy_hash()` thus gets wrongly called with `znode->cparent->zbranch[znode->iip].hash` that triggers the use-after-free! Fix this by explicitly setting `znode->cparent` to `NULL` in `get_znodes_to_commit()` for the root node. 13. Netis Router Exploit Chain Reactor (CVE-2024-48455, CVE-2024-48456 and CVE-2024-48457). Disclosed 12/27/2024 Created 01/08/2025 Description Several Netis Routers including rebranded routers from GLCtec and Stonet suffer from a command injection vulnerability at the change admin password page of the router web interface (see CVE-2024-48456 for more details). The vulnerability stems from improper handling of the 'password' and 'new password' parameter within the router's web interface. Attackers can inject a command in the 'password' or 'new password' parameter, encoded in base64, to exploit the command injection vulnerability. When exploited, this can lead to command execution, potentially allowing the attacker to take full control of the router. An attacker needs to be authenticated to initiate this RCE, however CVE-2024-48457 allows an unauthenticated attacker to reset the Wifi and router password, hence gaining full root access to the router to execute the RCE. Last but not least, CVE-2024-48455 allows for unauthenticated information disclosure revealing sensitive configuration information of the router which can be used by the attacker to determine if the router is running specific vulnerable firmware. 15. Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-56548: ELSA-2025-20095: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 02/13/2025 Added 02/11/2025 Modified 02/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hfsplus: don't query the device logical block size multiple times Devices block sizes may change. One of these cases is a loop device by using ioctl LOOP_SET_BLOCK_SIZE. While this may cause other issues like IO being rejected, in the case of hfsplus, it will allocate a block by using that size and potentially write out-of-bounds when hfsplus_read_wrapper calls hfsplus_submit_bio and the latter function reads a different io_size. Using a new min_io_size initally set to sb_min_blocksize works for the purposes of the original fix, since it will be set to the max between HFSPLUS_SECTOR_SIZE and the first seen logical block size. We still use the max between HFSPLUS_SECTOR_SIZE and min_io_size in case the latter is not initialized. Tested by mounting an hfsplus filesystem with loop block sizes 512, 1024 and 4096. The cited commit replaced inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop_and_put() with __inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() and reqsk_put() in reqsk_timer_handler(). Then, oreq should be passed to reqsk_put() instead of req; otherwise use-after-free of nreq could happen when reqsk is migrated but the retry attempt failed (e.g. due to timeout). Let's pass oreq to reqsk_put(). Debian: CVE-2024-56625: linux -- security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 12/27/2024 Created 01/14/2025 Added 01/13/2025 Modified 01/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: dev: can_set_termination(): allow sleeping GPIOs In commit 6e86a1543c37 ("can: dev: provide optional GPIO based termination support") GPIO based termination support was added. For no particular reason that patch uses gpiod_set_value() to set the GPIO. This leads to the following warning, if the systems uses a sleeping GPIO, i.e. behind an I2C port expander: | WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 379 at /drivers/gpio/gpiolib.c:3496 gpiod_set_value+0x50/0x6c | CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 379 Comm: ip Not tainted 6.11.0-20241016-1 #1 823affae360cc91126e4d316d7a614a8bf86236c Replace gpiod_set_value() by gpiod_set_value_cansleep() to allow the use of sleeping GPIOs. Debian: CVE-2024-56651: linux -- security update Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 01/14/2025 Added 01/13/2025 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: hi311x: hi3110_can_ist(): fix potential use-after-free The commit a22bd630cfff ("can: hi311x: do not report txerr and rxerr during bus-off") removed the reporting of rxerr and txerr even in case of correct operation (i. e. not bus-off). The error count information added to the CAN frame after netif_rx() is a potential use after free, since there is no guarantee that the skb is in the same state. It might be freed or reused. Fix the issue by postponing the netif_rx() call in case of txerr and rxerr reporting. Solution(s) debian-upgrade-linux References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-56651 CVE - 2024-56651
